Ah... Sunday...

Had a blast last night at Amanda and Mason's wedding reception. The place was really rocking! We played some polkas from Frankie Yankovic that were awesome! Amanda had two friends from Austria that came for the wedding. They had everybody laughing conducting one of their traditions with Amanda using her hands to feed Mason, among other things.

After the wedding, went by KUT and hung out with Jabari for a few hours and caught up with him. Figured out that we have known each other for 22 years now! Where does the time go ?

After a full day at Unity catching up on last weeks edits/podcasts, I grabbed some lunch and came home to meet CT of CT Productions to cut a spot for Sir Charles Jones who will be appearing at Midtown II on Saturday, May 20th. Listening to some of his music now and enjoying the slow bluesy sounds. Perfect for a Sunday evening after picking up and dismantling three sections of my picket fence that blew down with the storms last week.

All for now!

Moving Forward...

Today I gave my resignation to The Dad Show, which is a weekly talk show that I have worked on since 1998. I felt like I need the time to focus on the business and open up some more space to do that so I can give my clients the best service possible.

Special thanks for Child Inc executive director James Strickland and producer Tasha Mora who have been great to work with for so many years as well as the various hosts we have had.

Musically this week, a new release I am digging is Outrageous by Paul Simon. The groove is funky and he has something to say.

Here are some of the lyrics:

It's outrageous to line your pockets off the misery of the poor.
Outrageous the crime some human beings must endure.
It's a blessing to wash your face in summer souls just rained??
It's outrageous that a man like me stand here and complain.

It's outrageous the food they try to serve in the public school.
Outrageous the way they talk to you like some kind of clinical fool
It's a blessing to rest my head in the circle of your love.
It's outrageous, I can't stop thinking about the things I'm thinking of.

Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?

God will, like he waters the flowers on the window sill.
Take me, I'm an ordinary player in the key of C,
And my will was broken by my pride and my vanity

Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?
God will, like he waters the flowers on the window sill.
Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?

Saturday, I will be doing Amanda & Mason's wedding and I am very excited about what we have put together. It should be a great party.

Wishing all of you a blessed weekend!

Recovering...

I returned around 10:00 last night from Fort Worth and the convention and I am still digesting everything I learned. The show exceeded my expectations by far and I met lots of great DJs too.

Yesterday's highlights for me were hearing one of Zig Ziglar's main men, Bryan Flanagan speak about suceeding in sales and also Todd Mitchem's presentation on Now Let's Get Interactive. I picked up Bryan's book & Todd's DVD and I am excited to see where they will lead me.

Life is good!

Southern DJ Convention

I am still here in Fort Worth at The Southern Disc Jockey Convention and having a great time! I am learning a lot and hanging out with some very inspirational people. Had a session with Bryan Dodge this morning who spoke about how to build a better life. Amazing and hilarious too! Just finished a session with Troy Ackerman who I think has an excellent product called DJ Event Planner for running a DJ business, including a client login and online planner. I plan to implement this to my site very soon. Next up is dinner with Ron White.

Peace !

Reggae Fest Wrap / Coming Up

Well the Reggae Fest on Sunday turned out nice, though it was very hot and of course more dust. Highlights for me were for Lionhead and my set with Five Ton Chicken and more great food from Soul Vegetarian restaurant, their jerk tofu and mac-n-cheese were excellent!

This morning, I was watering the yard and got a call at 11:34 from our station manager that he needed me to be in the station by noon to get Democracy Now! on then do my show at 1:00. I arrived at the station while the underwriting spots were running just barely in time to get the show on the air.

This is a busy week for me workwise. I will be in Corpus Christi on Thursday with Five Ton Chicken at Dr Rockit's Blue Bar. On Friday, I have a jr high dance in Pflugerville for the Pflugerville Police Association and a wedding for Kirk & Rachel on Saturday. Sunday, I will be off to Fort Worth for 3 days for the Southern Disc Jockey Convention. I am very excited to attend the seminars and learn more about the craft and hang out with a bunch of DJs.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do what I love and make a living. Imagine if everybody could find enough courage to follow their heart and do their passion in life? Things would look quite different wouldn't they ?

Courage is never to let your actions be influenced by your fears. ~Arthur Koestler

Music with Dust

We had a great time at Austin Reggae Fest yesterday. Ate lots of dust, yummy!

Two bands that I was really impressed with were Woodbelly from Dallas, who did some funky Stevie Wonder covers among other things. The guitar player was very talented vocally as well. I finally got a chance to hear Austin's Grimy Styles play and their dub reggae sounds had people very excited. Now I know why they sell out shows at Flamingo Cantina.

Today, it's more dust and more music...

She Thinks My Traktor's Sexy

Greetings to all !

I have decided to jump into the blogging game and see what I can learn from a new journey in communication. I look forward to hearing from anybody out there in regards to topics regarding DJing, music, technology, business and related topics. If you are getting married, please let me know if you have any questions, and if I can help you.

Two things I am really excited about this week:

I upgraded my Traktor DJ software to 3.0 this week. This is the software I use on most of my gigs to run music. I'm most excited about the upgrade as the new version offers the possibility of running 4 decks, as opposed to two that were in the previous version, plus they have added some awesome digital effects, for those of us who like to twirl knobs and play with the sounds. Here is a screen shot:
I think this is really going to be a lot of fun and open up new possibilities for what can be done with DJing. Hopefully soon I will figure out which hardware controller is going to work for me to run this.

The other thing I am excited about is The Austin Reggae Festival this weekend. The fest will be all day from noon to 10pm and I will be DJing with Catch A Fire between bands and also playing drums with Five Ton Chicken Sunday at 2:30. Hope to have some pics to post on Monday from the events.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!
