Sicola's - A Culinary Experience

I attended a networking event and had dinner tonight at Sicola's. Sicola's is a private venue off of Balcones and is not a restaurant. It would be perfect for a rehearsal dinner or small reception. They also do catering. The food was awesome and the ambiance was nice too (small and cozy). The waitstaff was attentive and we had a great evening.

For more information on Sicola, you can contact Dawn Wade at 512-323-6907.

Our guest speaker was Tweed Scott, a retired radio broadcaster, who has just published a book on Texas called "Texas In Her Own Words." We enjoyed hearing him talk about the interviews he did with Willie Nelson, Liz Carpenter, and other Texas folk.

Happy Birthday Lucy

This was taken Saturday night at Lucille Maldonado's 60th birthday celebration. We crowned her "60 & Sensational" with a crown and sash which I picked up at Party Pig. Musically, I played doo-wop for most of the night, except when we went off on some hip-hop and 80s grooves.

Lucille is the wife of Hilbert Maldonado, who has owned and operated Hill-Bert's Burgers since 1973 in Austin. Special thanks to Lucy and Hilbert and the whole Maldonado family for their patience and support of me as I used to manage their restaurants (Hill-Bert's). It was nice to connect with them again.

Weekend Runnings

Saturday, I will be at Balcones Woods Apartments for a pool party from noon-2pm, then that evening, playing drums with Root 1, who I used to play with years ago and did two albums with playing, producing and mixing.

Sunday evening, we are having a celebration and potluck at Flamingo Cantina for our friend Horace Bowser who made his transition last week. I will be spinning tunes as we celebrate all he gave us.

Wishing you a blessed weekend !

Catch The Moment

Here is a picture from a wedding I did last weekend. Catch The Moment is the name of the company who took it and it was very popular with everybody there. They have a variety of backgrounds to choose from and you can have your guests superimposed with you in the picture by merging pictures together digitally. Prints are done on the spot and put in a nice black paper folder. The quality of them is excellent and all your wedding guests will love having their picture taken. For more information, contact Amanda Escamilla on 713-255-4503. They have somebody in Austin as well. Posted by Picasa

This picture from tonight's wedding. They both went to UT and we did a medley for their friends that had them all making lots of noise and dancing. Here is what it consisted of:

9:00 - Tailgate Medley:
Longhorn Fight Song
David Allan Coe – You Never Even Call Me By My Name
Tim McGraw – Just To See You Smile
Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places
Eyes of Texas

The Flying Club

Yesterday I discovered an Austin band that has me really excited!

The Flying Club

They do pop music recorded in Austin & Rio de Janero that is so sweet! The singers voice is just gorgeous and the grooves are very smooth with Brazilian percussion.

If you have a moment, please check them out on MySpace for sound samples or on their website.

I hope you like them!

Off to Dallas shortly for Stephen & Amber's wedding.
